So I’m sitting here at school, quite bored so I figured that I would post. Over the past week or so I’ve started to use PHP more and more for school project and I’m still debating how much I like it. It’s pretty much a forgone conclusion that I will have to know it if I intend to find a job in web anything, but I’m not a big fan of it yet. I will say that there are some features that I would like to see in Python and not having to use some framework. One of those is using $_POST[] to get the value of a text box or such from a web form. For you people reading this is there anything is Python that relates to this, with or without having to install a framework? And why I’m on that subject, I would really like to start looking at some of the ones out there. Does anybody have any experience with any Python web frameworks?
Back Again
Well, it’s finally starting to warm up here in New York and it about time. I’m really tired of all this snow, and rain. It’s really starting to warm up and seem a little like summer, which is really good. I can’t wait for summer this year, there is a lot that I may be doing. And if all goes well I’ll also have an telecommuting job that I can work at over the summer and during my next two years of school while I get my B.S. is Computer Science. So if anyone has an opening, leave a comment and I’ll send a resume as soon as I can. Well, now that the shameless self promotion is done. It’s been a really hectic past couple of weeks. With school starting to wind down for the semester all the teachers are starting to give their projects out, and since they all think their class is the only one in the world they projects are quite time consuming. And with all of that I’ve some friends come home to visit, so I’m quite happy. Although I didn’t get to spend as much time with one of my friends as I would have liked. She was quite busy visiting other people, so I guess I understand. Well, back to the daily grind.
Another Monday
As yes…another monday, one in which I was dragged out of bed at 8:00AM, quite early for me, to bring my mom back from the mechanics. But enough of that, on to some links.
For one, it’s about time for the military said they had some kind hacking force. I think we all knew they did, they just never admitted it.
Adobe also bought Macromedia today, methinks that the government it going to have a good long look at this seeing as it would create an incredibly big design company.
That’s about all that I’ve got for now. On a side note though, I am currently looking for a web design/development or other type of programming job. The only stipulation I have is that I can do it via telecommuting. Please give me an e-mail if you have an opening at eiffel777@gmail.com, use job opening as the subject line.
Intresting Tidbits
It looks like the recording industry is after the ISP’s again. Only this time it’s worse and all the ISP’s in the world are being affected. According to this article at The Register, the IFPI is drafting a “code of conduct” for ISP’s.
Here’s a sampler. Under the new code, ISPs would put in place filtering technology to block services and/or sites that “are substantially dedicated to illegal file sharing or download services”. They would retain data beyond what law enforcement agencies require, with the aim of helping track down copyright infringement. They’d hand that data, plus your identity, over to the IFPI or MPA if there was even a complaint - not a court order - against you for, you guessed it, copyright infringement. (And you’d have signed or clicked something agreeing to allow that.)
What is the worlds recording industry coming to. I really hope that this is shot down hard and fast. It’s way more than what needs to be done. You know what, one thing that I never really liked about the RIAA and MPAA getting involved is that they aren’t the artists and, as far as I know, don’t really represent them. There have been numerous artist that have said that they don’t really care about downloads. And you know who does make the big money off of records; it’s not the artists, but the record companies that stand the make/lose the most. That’s what get’s me, they act like they are looking out for the artists when they are really just trying to hoard more money than they will ever need. I could go on about the money aspect but I’ll save that for another post when I have more time and have thought it out more.
An early monday morning
Here it is again, monday morning and me not wanting to get up and go to school. I saw this over at Slashdot and thought it was quite funny. Evidently some CalTech kids went up to MIT and pulled some nice little pranks over the weekend. The site has a list of the pranks that they pulled, and I must say, very nice. I also found another piece about how Sun Microsystems president Jonathan Schwartz is attacking the GPL.
Schwartz believes the licence goes too far. On top of the danger to respectable business practices, he argued the GPL is “IP colonialism”, a threat to poorer countries who need to use intellectual property to compete in the world marketplace.
On those countries the GPL imposes “a rather predatory obligation to [give back] all their IP to the wealthiest nation in the world”, the United States, which developed the GPL, Schwartz said, according to various report
Here is a little disclaimer before I make this comment, I know a bit about the GPL, Linux and all. I am by no means an expert. With that said, I think Schwartz missed a couple of things. While we can get code and information from other people in other countries, what’s to stop them from taking the code that we produce here in the US, and everywhere else for that matter, and use it in their products. I never really liked Sun all that much, and this furthers my dislike for them. They’re really are starting to sound a lot like Microsoft.
Bored and Somewhat Perturbed
I’m sitting in the computer lab at school right now waiting from my boss to pop up somewhere. He’s not on campus, so therefore I can’t work. Which is ok I guess, but what I really don’t like is the fact that if he isn’t going to be at work then send me an e-mail. I could still be at home do work, or sleeping. I don’t have a class uptil 2:30 and don’t care to sit in the lab all day. The other thing is that I live 20 minutes away, so 1) it would be worth it to go home and come back, gas is way to expensive, and 2) I could have stayed at home and done my work later instead of getting up at 6:45 to finish some hw. Oh well, now I’m just ranting. It seems I’ll stay here and by bored
Hello world! Here I come
Well, here I am. I just found this over on Digg and figured I’d give it a try. I busy with school right now though, so I’ll post in more detail when I get a chance.
